The Abduction of a Sabine woman or The Rape of the Sabine, is a large and complex statue created by the Flemish sculptor, Giambologna which was commissioned for Cosimo l de' Medici. The statue is composed in a serpentine manner and is considered one of the best works known to mankind. Here, our sculpture of The Rape of the Sabine features three nude characters, a woman and two men. It is based on an old Roman history that claimed the rape of women from a city called Sabina.
