Marcus Aurelius was a Roman Emperor from 162 to 180 AD, and was said to be a stoic philosopher. The number and severity of persecutions of Christians in various locations of the Roman empire seemingly increased during the reign of Marcus Aurelius but he later changed his attitude towards the Christians when he believed a Christian prayer saved his army from thirst. From that point on, Marcus requested the Senate to desist from earlier courses of Christian persecution by Rome.
