Remington's "The Old Dragoons of 1850" depicts a dynamic, high-speed encounter between U.S. Dragoons and Plains Indians. The sculpture features two Dragoons and two Native American riders, all at full gallop, with a riderless horse equipped with a Plains Indian saddle and seen in conflict.
The sculpture showcases Remington's mastery of bronze casting, particularly in the complex arrangement of the figures and the fact that only seven of the horses' hooves touch the ground. Cast in bronze using the ancient lost wax process, our sculpture comes set on a solid marble base.
