Buddha statues are shown in various poses known as mudras and each pose shown on a Buddha statue represents each phase of Buddha's life. This Buddha statue shows Shakyamuni Buddha in a position of calm and serene repose as his two hands are shown resting in his lap. This pose possibly called the Dhyana mudra, represents a balanced calm and peaceful tranquility. This mudra was used by Buddha during the final meditation under the "Bodhi" tree.
