Venus is the Roman Goddess of love, sex, fertility and beauty. Her Greek counterpart is said to be Aphrodite. According to Hesiod's Theogony, Venus was born of the foam from the sea after Saturn castrated his father Uranus and his blood fell to the sea. This is why at times there are sculptures of Venus rising from the sea in a clam.
