Based on Frederic Remington’s famous 1892 drawing, Pitching Broncho, which was published in Harper's Weekly, this sculpture was one of Remington’s early sculptures and highlights a cow boy struggling to stay on a bucking horse while holding a quirt in one hand and a fistful of reins and mane in the other. This beautiful sculpture stands 35” high and is considered a metaphor for the American West, with the horse representing the untamed land and the cowboy representing white settler-colonialists subduing nature.
