Saint Matthew was a tax collector and considered a “sinner” when he was recruited by Jesus to follow Him in Capernaum on the Sea of Galilee. He was the first apostle to respond to the call to follow Jesus. Saint Matthew is said to have recorded the life, death, and resurrection of Christ.
